More Velvet Art

This is part of the new assignment. Klutz asked me to draw the technical illustrations for the "How to" section of the book. I can't wait to see a copy of this one when it's all done. I'll break out my old black light and have a very merry Christmas...

More Christmas Art

Had a quick follow up assignment from Klutz.

They liked my "Candyland" illo and decided to use it for the cover. That was a nice surprise so I added a bit of color. The pallet is a very minimal because they want to show what's possible with the markers that come with the book.

Here it is in it's raw form. They will add headlines and other items on the design end.

Square One Card Decks

Here's some new spot illustrations for another new client. PlayBac is a French publishing company that does educational products. I'm working on a series of card decks that are subject specific. We're starting off with the first 4 (Pirates, Soccer, Horses and Spies).

I'm working with a talented writer, Jim Buckley of Shoreline Publishing and an very creative Art Director, Tom Carling who has designed the card decks. I'm simply providing the spot illustrations for the project, which is going to keep me busy for a while. Each deck has 40 spots x 4 decks comes out to 160 color spot illustrations. It's time to stop writing and get back to drawing. Our deadline is April 24th.

I Hear Music

Character for "I Hear Music". I don't have a lot of details on this one. It's a quick project from an old client. They were pretty clear on what they wanted and I just created the character for them.

Do You Really Need It?

Another quick illustration for a new client. This one is pretty self explanatory. Tried to keep the colors muted in this one.

Cat and Rat

New spot illustration for an Pearson Education

This was a fun little project. Just a simple color spot of a cat on a mat and a rat in a hat. I liked the first sketch better with more interplay between the characters, but the editor wanted the cat laying on the mat. The 2nd version I drew the cat laying on the mat but attempted to keep the tension between the characters with the cat’s playful posture.

In the final version the editors wanted the cat to have all 4 on the floor.

Infograph for AMO. I’ve done a few of these for various agencies that work with clients in the medical field. I like doing the illustrations. It’s a different challenge. Medical illustration is not really my specialty, but the style of these are intended to be fairly simple and easily digested.

Irons in the Fire

Working on a new logo for Beachfire’s 3rd and latest restaurant. This one is at the Historic San Clemente Golf Course. We wanted to maintain the brand identity but identify this restaurant as having it’s own character.

Dave and Alison Donaldson have been our friends for a very long time and their success with their first restaurant "Beachfire" is well deserved. If you're ever in San Clemente or Ladera Ranch CA. You have to stop in and enjoy some of the greatest food anywhere.

It's always great to work with Dave on any creative project.
